Every Orion feeder is built the same way in Iron Mountain, Michigan: a 16-gauge steel hopper on a bear-proof hexagonal cage, a solar-charged spinner, and a lid you fill standing flat-footed on the ground. The only real choice is how often you want to drive out and refill it. Pick by that, not by herd size.

What every Orion feeder has
You don't give anything up by choosing a smaller feeder. All three sizes are built the same way.

Bear-proof, and we put it in writing
Most feeders lose twice: once when a bear flattens it, and again when your corn ends up on the ground. Orion's hexagonal cage keeps bears and hogs out of the hopper, and the low, wide stance keeps them from tipping it.
The MAX Anchor Kit finishes the job. Four pound-in earth anchors, each rated for 800 lbs of pull-out force, make the feeder effectively immovable. Anchor it and Orion guarantees the feeder against bear and hog damage that disables it for 12 months from purchase. If it happens, send us photos and we'll sort out the replacement parts.
At $57 on a feeder over a thousand dollars, the anchor kit is the cheapest insurance you can buy. In bear or hog country, order it with the feeder rather than after the first incident.
What to put in it
Corn, soybeans, and other roasted, dried or filtered feeds of a similar size run best, and they're far less likely to clog or mold. Use protein pellets, mixed feeds and additives with caution. Pellets soak up humidity and can swell and clump, which can clog or damage the motor on any mechanical feeder.

Which size Orion feeder should I buy?
Pick by how often you'll refill it, not by herd size. The 450 lb holds about a month of feed for a typical two-feeder setup on a small property. The 750 lb stretches a back forty through most of a season. The 1050 lb is for leases you rarely visit. All three take 300 lb hopper extensions, so if you're unsure, start smaller and add capacity later.
Is the Orion feeder really bear-proof?
Yes. The 16-gauge steel hexagonal cage keeps bears and hogs out of the hopper, and the wide stance keeps them from tipping it. Anchor it with the MAX Anchor Kit and Orion guarantees it in writing for 12 months against bear and hog damage that disables the feeder.
How high do I have to lift the feed?
41 inches on the 450, 49 inches on the 750 and 58 inches on the 1050. All three are filled standing flat-footed on the ground, with no ladder and no lifting overhead.
How far does it spread feed?
Up to a 60-foot diameter, with the heaviest concentration around 20 feet. The Eliminator spinner plate keeps the pattern consistent from one feeding to the next.
Will raccoons and squirrels clean it out?
No. The base cage and the Eliminator plate mean varmints only get what the feeder throws. There's no open trough to sit in and nothing soft to chew through.
How does the feeder ship?
By LTL freight with lift-gate service and a delivery appointment. The carrier calls ahead so an adult can be there to accept it. It ships to residential and commercial addresses.
Is it legal to hunt over a feeder?
It depends on your state, and in some states on your county. Some states allow hunting over a feeder, some allow feeding but not as a hunting aid, and some ban feeding outright. Check with your state wildlife agency before you set one up.
